MCPS- 2 day speech preschool?

Anonymous
My 3yo with Childhood Apraxia of Speech was just assigned to MCPS' s 2 day a week speech prescool. I'mimprovementateful this option exists.

Anyone have any experiences witht he program they can share?

I'm interested to know if this is usually a short term placement and children are pushed out when some improvement shows. Or, if as long as you have speech needs, once you're in you're in until K?

I'd love any other insight!

Ack, sorry for the typos!

I don't think they will try to "push you out." We did PEP (not specifically the speech program) for two years b/f K. I would also try to supplement with private speech if you can.

Op here, thank you. We are supplementing with private now, though I admit we were hoping this class might be enough we could drop it.

My son was in the program at Westover, and I thought it was great. I did supplement with private speech therapy, but with the young ones, they want you doing it as much as possible. If your child improves enough to not need services, they will move you to itinerate services at your home ES. My son "graduated" after almost 2 school years in the program.

Thank you, that's very helpful.
