How often do you contact your child's teacher?

Anonymous
I am looking for a barometer. I have contacted my daughter's teacher twice so far this year with academic-related questions. I do have an older child where I have never had to do this, but my younger one seems to be struggling a bit so I have asked for feedback or questions on two occasions. Just curious how much others contact their child's teacher for input on how they are doing.

I have an SN child who's mainstreamed so his teacher e-mails me every 2 weeks with a sort of progress report.

Pretty much never.

I have 2 dd's. One in third and one in first. Both teachers have encouraged email correspondence.

I have emailed dd's 3rd grade teacher about 10 times so far - all having to do with questions about homework and also because dd was out 2 weeks sick. I always email the teacher when dd is sick to let her know. Then I emailed about a plan to make up dd's homework and tests that she missed.

For first grade dd, we had an issue in school that I have emailed the teacher about 3 times. Then I have emailed her once or twice about homework.

Younger child: never, but did briefly discuss one small issue at drop-off and it was resolved with no further communication necessary.

Older SN child: all the time (at least once a week).

Agree. Why do you have so many questions about homework?

My dd has a 504 plan for ADHD, and I asked the teacher twice about a deadline for a major project. The teacher didn't answer the first two times I asked. I asked a third time, and the teacher told me the date and also that the dates are all entered in dd's planner. I looked in dd's planner, and the date was not there. And like I said, dd was sick for 2 weeks, so I thought we should come up with a plan for her to make up tests and do homework. Sorry if you think that's excessive. I don't.

Seriously. Why are they doing "major projects" outside of school?

It's also weird that a teacher would assign a major project to be completed outside of school during the 1st quarter of 3rd grade.

Did you and PP miss where she said her child was out sick for two weeks?
