ugh. the college interns who work/volunteer in my organization are really annoying. i don't work directly with them, but they are often clustered just outside my office and i cannot even stand to listen to them anymore. i know they are young, but still....vapid, shallow, lazy, not-to-bright and...even mean. i often hear them making fun of some of my older, oddball type co-workers. they seem to try to do everything to avoid being useful.
i wish they (and their leggings, uggs, and iphones) would just go away |
Are they cute ? |
why not mentor them to become a curmudgeonly old lady like you? |
I'm a SAHM now but the interns are all spoiled, entitled brats where I worked. The females has no concept of appropriate office attire despite having been directed by HR in orientation as to what could and could not be worn. The males thought it was cool to get shitfaced after work every day. It was more daycare than work for them... And yes, they were lazy and felt like they were owed something. Just the shift in generations and how spoiled toddlers turn into spoiled workers. |
haha. I felt the same way about the interns. But I worked on Capitol Hill where they weren't lazy UGG wearers -- mostly A student, 'why aren't I making policy instead of photocopies?!' types. Ugh. |
Exactly! |
Heh heh. Do you work at the MGA? |

How much do these shiftless interns get paid:
If $12/hr - fire them. If $6/hr - work with them. If $0/hr - tolerate them. It's probably no big thrill for them, either. Both sides are being used. |
You know, that's actually some good perspective. Thanks for that. I'm not the OP, but my MO has been to roll my eyes and think, "keep livin'" when something unbelievably ageist or entitled or clueless comes out of their mouths. |
The interns at my old company, Reznick Group, make upwards of $15 - $20 an hour AND get free lunch every day. |
This is often true in the Justice Dept., too, except they want to help THE solicitor general write Supreme Court briefs. |

Does this describe them? |
So glad I'm not that age anymore. I probably annoyed a lot of people back in my 20s! |
We had unpaid interns at my last job. Most of them were great, helpful and enthusiastic...because they got to drive hot cars as part of the job. But occasionally we'd get the ones that didn't want to work, just play around in the Bimmers and Lambos. One actually tried to tell the editor-in-chief, who had been running the magazine for 30 years, on how to do his job at a production meeting. We were so glad when his internship was over! |
