Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
I'm having a brain fart and can't remember what my son wore in the house over the summer when he was an infant. We took him out doors in onsies. A newborn needs to wear sleepers inside even if it's hot outside, right?
It depends on the temperature in your house. We kept in warm so we usually stuck with the onesies or similar. On cooler days, we did lightweight cotton footed sleepers.
My son was born on May 2nd. I had lots of lovely onesies and summer clothes from DS#1, but had to buy some winter outfits because the first part of May was pretty chilly. And I keep my house relatively warm.
It's really important not to overheat your baby. If it's fairly warm outside and you're not using air conditioning, I definitely wouldn't put more on your DC inside than you're putting on him outside. We did like to use footed sleepers because I think it made our DD feel more secure (sort of like the feeling of being swaddled) but if it's spring/summer, I would use lightweight cotton rather than fleece as a PP suggested.
my may baby wore a t-shirt and a diaper usually, and sometimes leggings/pants. i never put her in sleepers because the house just wasn't chilly.
DD was born in June, but we used onesies and similar outfits almost all the time until late September.

When in May is your baby due?
For Wash DC: May 1st -- avg high = 71, mean temp = 61 May 31st -- avg high 80, mean temp = 70 |
My son was born last April 30 and he wore long pants for most of May because last May was pretty chilly. I think sleepers will work just fine. Hopefully it will be warmer this year!
My baby was born first week of May. She wore mostly infant gowns with long sleeves (for easier diaper changing) or else footed cotton sleepers. By August she was in just a plain onesie when it was hot, but early spring and as a new newborn, she needed a little something more.

Buy lightweight sleepers. If it is cooler you can put a onesie underneath.
Also buy onesies with matching pants. If it is cool, you can put on the pants, if not, just the onesie. |
My May 22 baby lived in onesies until September. As a brand-new newborn, we'd often swaddle him in a blanket during the day, often with little hat on top -- looking back, I kinda wonder if this was overkill, but oh well. At night he'd wear a onesie, swaddling blanket and hat, or a long nightgown or footed sleeper. We kept our house pretty warm.
First couple of weeks of May last year were surprisingly cold, so maybe a couple of long-sleeved onesies and pants. To sleep, DS wore a t-shirt or onesie and we swaddled him. Anything more than that and he was too hot, even with air conditioning on in the house.
