Questions for Indians or Pakistanis-authentic restaurant

Anonymous
I have only found one authentic and decent tasting Indian/Pakistan food and that was at Ravi Kabab. I can't even say its great. Not all dishes there are. But a few are.

Any other authentic Indian or Pakistani restaurants out there?

As much as I like Indian and Pakistani food, I heard on NPR and the Veria Channel that India and Pakistan uses heavy, powerful pesticides on agriculture. As a result some of their spices may be made from toxin laden plants. Makes me wonder about whether their restaurants here in the US are ordering in bulk and using spices from these countries.
Anyone hear about this?

Have you researched the pesticides used in America lately?

Indian and Pakistani cuisines are very different. There are many major cuisines even within India. It depends on what type of food you are looking for.

Jewel of India in the Safeway Plaza on New Hampshire neat the Beltway. My friend, born and raised in India, says when his family visits from back home, they say the food is better at Jewel than it is in India! He caters from there for parties, etc. Tiffin is my second favorite.

we LOVE Saran Vegetarian in Arlington on Lee highway. it tastes homemade (we are Indian). We actually sort of use them as our personal food delivery service since the food is SO good and relatively inexpensive - I basically just order from there when my parents and ILs come (both Indian) and they really love it (better than my indian cooking, because I never paid attention when my mom tried to teach me)

I would second this. The place is kind of a dump, but the food is really good. We brought my South Indian Veg in-laws here several times when they last visited. They're really picky but loved this place. But this is South Indian Veg - nowhere near Pakistani food!

Tiffin is yuk - don't go there!

+1 Saran

Is Amma'a still around in Vienna? Excellent vegetarian Indian.

I have to agree that Jewel of India is the best. I was partial to Woodlands and Udupi Palace (RIP) until I discovered Jewel of India, and now I never go back to Woodlands.
