Thanksgiving- River Falls closed

Anonymous
So disappointed to hear River Falls Market is closed! Have been getting my Thanksgiving dinner there for years and it was terrific!!
Any suggestions of similar places that cater for Thanksgiving? I'm willing to pay!!
(I have a lot of people, I'm a terrible cook, and I work straight through that morning, so don't suggest I make it myself please!!!)

Bummer!!!! That place had the best seafood, pricey but worth it. Also great prepared foods. Going to miss those crab cakes. Boo hop.

+1 -- Are they reopening elsewhere, maybe? I'm surprised since it always seemed to be pretty busy.

The owner is apparently going through a nasty divorce. An article in the paper actually quoted him as saying that the divorce was sucking every last cent out of him. It was ridiculously honest the article! I was surprised he wanted to say all that to the news, but he seems incredibly angry and bitter about the whole thing.

We've always gotten Whole Foods meals and liked them. There's also Balducci's. Also, I bet that new Potomac Market across the street by Walgreen's will have meals.

Cooking a turkey is pretty easy, especially if you use a cooking bag. You would have to try very very hard to dry out a turkey in a cooking bag.

Why would you you put a turkey in a bag? Yuck. Learn to roast poultry.

Wow . . . I feel terrible for the staff -- all very nice folks.

Provided you cook the turkey properly, the only difference from roasting and using a bag is skin texture and appearance. Crispy skin is tasty and looks nice, but it is a very small part of an entire turkey. So it comes down to risking a dry turkey for the reward of crispy skin. Or almost guaranteeing a moist turkey but no crispy skin. Using a bag also works better when your stuffing the bird, again less chance of drying out the breast while ensuring the stuffing is done.

The meat itself will be the same from a bag as it will from a perfectly roasted turkey.

I would try the new Potomac Grocer. Everything I have purchased there as been really good (albeit expensive).
