| We are interested in exploring private schools for our current 5th grader who has been in public school thus far. It seems like most of the options are religious. Any suggestions of non-religious schools we should be checking out? |
| Lowell is one option. |
| silver spring kids tend to go out of town (not far) for school. Check dcschoolhub for all the ones in your area. |

Here is a very recent helpful thread:

| We live in Silver Spring and chose Friends Community School in College Park for our middle schooler after leaving the local public. It serves grades K-8, it has a lovely community, and the drive almost always takes less 15 minutes from our SS home. |
| Most schools have buses from major points so you should widen your search area. Rockville, upper DC, Rockville etc. |
| ugh. Friends Community School. I would NOT send my child there- just based on what I know of the teachers. |
| Check out Barrie School on Layhill Road in Silver Spring. My daughter had a great experience. |
Thanks. Do you have recommendations in those places? |
What issues with the teachers? I was considering sending my son there in 2 years. |

| Lowell and Barrie are probably the closest geographically. But as noted above, by middle school kids often take buses further away. We live on the Silver Spring/Chevy Chase line and there are different families on our street who have had kids in St. Andrews (Potomac), Barrie (SS), Sidwell (D.C.), Lowell (DC), and Maret (DC). |
| For a girl you might look at Holton. They have a bus stop in Silver Spring. We're in PG County and the bus has made the school workable for us and has been great for our DD. |

Could you please elaborate? |
