S/O magical food - what food takes you back to a moment?

When reading the "magic" food thread, I started thinking about what foods transport us to another place in time - the ones that bring you right back to being four in Grandma's kitchen, or twenty on a first date with a lover.

I usually don't make a lot of "traditional" foods for my German DH, but made him goulash and a certain kind of schnitzel this week. I could see it on his face when he ate both meals - he was transported (which made me happy that I managed to replicate the food properly).

For me, it's the taste of wild blueberries. I imagine visiting my memere in Northern Ontario, and sitting on the hot rocks in August, eating them right off the plant. Every time I eat them, I'm immediately four years old, and I can almost feel the sun and smell the heat off the rocks. Amazing.

What food (s) transport you?

Campbell's Chicken Soup with Stars. It was my mother's go-to sick day lunch (because we begged for it!) and when I recently got it for my own son, the memories of afternoons on the couch with my Sesame Street sheets and Price Is Right reruns all came flooding right back. So strange how a taste can unlock such vivid memories.

Chicken and dumplings. My grandmother lived with us and she cooked on her days off from work which were Thursdays. Every Thursday we had a great home-cooked meal (my mother was a terrible cook) and chicken and dumplings were the best!

Pepperidge Farm crouton stuffing. Whenever I eat that, I'm transported to every holiday at my (late) grandmother's house.

My other grandmother, still cooking at 92, makes a chili sauce that transports me back to every childhood cookout.

Plums always remind me of my grandmother, because she had a tree in her yard that produced thousands of them every year. She was a depression baby, so she couldn't bear to let good food go to waste. We ate a LOT of plums.
