| UGH. Got my kids passport photos taken at CVS, then went to the post office yesterday to file the paperwork. The woman at the post office tells me that their ears are supposed to show in the passport photos (my kids are covered by hair in the photos) but that sometimes the State Department lets photos go through even if the ears are covered. So I filed as is and am now waiting. Can anyone comment on this? |
| Seriously? She sounds full of it. I just got my first passport in August. You can see a little bit of one ear in the photo. I didn't have any problems -- even received it in barely two weeks on expedited service. |

Postwoman was full of it! |
| OP here. Thanks PPs. Also, she only sent in one photo with each passport application. Does that sound right? |
| OP again. Nevermind. I see that 1 photo is acceptable. So why did CVS give me 2?? |
| They're usually done in pairs, in case you want to get the passport card as well as the actual passport. We didn't, a friend of mine did to use the card as everyday ID for her kid. |
Consular officer here. We like it when the ears show in the photo, because they are so identifiable. It's an identity document, after all. |
Cool job |

When I got my passport picture taken (at the post office) a little curl of my hair was over my ear. At a glance, in the photo it almost looks like I have a very odd shaped, deformed ear--but my ear is normal shaped, it was just the way my hair had curled over it.
When I was flying into China a few years ago, the person inspecting my passport made a really big deal about it, wanting to examine my ear, looking at the photo...I've used the same passport in entering a few other countries (England, the Netherlands, Czech Republic) and not experienced any problems. |
I guess the dept of state doesn't really care about what you like, since they're issuing these rogue passports sans ear pics. |
Yeah, John Kerry has bolts on his neck. |

My DC has thick long hair that completely covered her ears in her passport picture. No issue at all getting and using the passport. Good luck!

I just went today to renew my passport, which is my third time already. I k now you an not smile or squint and have to wear a shirt with no lettering or symbols. But this was the first time they told me to put my long hair behind my ears. Every picture my hair was long and ears were hidden. Must be something new. Maybe next time I will wear my head scarf since that seems to be allowed.??? |
