Hi! I am due with our first child January 2015 and live in Bloomingdale. Does anyone know of a mommy group in the neighborhood? I would love to connect with other mothers! |
There is a yahoo group but my membership has been pending for months. good luck
|
You have to write a really, really nice email to get on the neighborhood list (Bloomingdale Kids yahoo group). It does seem to take forever for them to approve emails.
Once you have the kid you will be able to meet other moms easily just by hanging out at Big Bear and the farmers market and walking around the neighborhood. People are pretty friendly. They allow Bloomingdale residents on the Eckington Kids list (also a yahoo group) so you could join that as well. It has a lot of the same content cross-posted from Bloomingdale. Good luck with your baby! Bloomingdale is a great neighborhood for little kids, we are loving it! |
Just send an email to the moderator of BloomingdaleKids. It's a Yahoo group. It doesn't take a long time, it's just that she is quite strict on the criteria. you have to give her your exact address (I said my street and block and it wasn't good enough) and your "parenting status". It's meant for parents only and I think she's a little paranoid about sketchy individuals joining. So if you're expecting, just say that. then your application will be approved and you'll quickly be flooded with emails about kid events and requests for nanny shares.
every few months or so someone will post about getting together with other expectant moms. there are also weekly playdates organized by a few moms (of infants or toddlers) and advertised on the list. there's also a strong community built up around the farmers market and playgrounds. there are TONS of kids here. |
if your membership is pending it's because you didn't give them the info they want to approve you. Full name, full address, details of your family. |
I don't see the group on Yahoo Groups, does anyone have a link? Do they accept moms from the neighboring areas, or just Bloomingdale proper? |
I'm one block east of North Capitol, but I'm on it. However that was a few years ago, so they may have tightened the criteria as the list has grown.
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/BloomingdaleKids/info Scroll down and you will see email addresses for Subscribe and Unsubscribe. If you live to the west, I'm not sure what is available. I know LeDroit Park has a civic association, but I'm not sure what there is for the New Jersey Ave area. I do know a few people living over there and they have mentioned not having a neighborhood kids list. Maybe it would be fun to start one? |

There is also a facebook group called Bloomingdale Mamas. |
Hi Moms: Does anyone know of a nanny who would like some additional hours? Here is the announcement:
My friend has her elderly mom joining her household in Bloomingdale. They are seeking an adult helper 3-5 days a week for three hours a day to provide companionship and assistance during the day. This could be a perfect opportunity for an after-school nanny who wants more hours. The job is companionship and some light house-keeping. Essentially, the job is to keep an eye on mom during the day while doing some light house-keeping (dusting & vacuuming), take her out for walks or excursions (via Uber), and be there with a cup of tea a/or help to prepare lunch, etc. A likeable friendly personality is a must. Compensation is $15-20 per hour. Please contact Dr. Tammy Lamb at tammy.lamb.manning@gmail.com if you are interested and thank you! |
