did anyone see the story on this in WaPo? How awful. I am surprUsed that there is no commentary in DCUM. I guess wrong place and wrong demographic to elicit Interest and sympathy. So sad.

I read about it. I normally would not read about a car crash in Maryland (I live in VA) but the headline saying five people died caught my eye. Then I read the follow up article saying two sisters with ten kids between them died and my heart broke. So, so sad. Who is going to raise all of those kids? Life is going to change for them in a huge way.

And no, they are not orphans unless their father(s )are also dead. The article doesn't mention anything about them.

Actually it does:

“She was just doing her motherly duties,” said Anthony Hardy, 22, Curtis’s stepson. “She did everything a mother was supposed to do. She put her children before everyone.”

...

"Hardy said his father will take care of Curtis’s two oldest children, Hardy’s half brother and half sister. The family is still making arrangements for the others. Fundraising Web sites have been set up for the family, both to pay for burials and the care of the children who have lost their mothers."

So the father of the step-child will take care of the next two oldest children. The family is still trying to make arrangements for the other children, which sounds as if the other father(s) are not in the picture.

This is so horrible. Everything about this story is awful but I feel the most pain for the driver of the Acura who survive but lost her two kids in the accident - the 13y old and the 1y old baby boy.

God, if something like that happens with my family please take me to. I would not want to be the solo survivor if both my children were to die…

I posted here already but I am still trying to wrap my mind on how 5 people could die just like that. I mean, it is not like they were in a highway or was a front collision.. the car was stopped and it was rear ended. The mercedes probably was flying!

pp That is the link from the WaPo article. It is for the funeral costs of the two mothers who were killed and for the care of their children. I did not come across a link for the two children who died.
