Busses to NY to avoid?

Anonymous
I'm taking my two kids to NY for a weekend, and I've looked at several bus websites. I was just going to go with the lowest price bus, and wondered if I should avoid that for any reason. They are:
NY-DC express

I would look at the safety records rather than the price first. I have never heard of/seen either of those and I am up and down the NJT multiple times per week. And I know there are frequent bus accidents along it. Check out Megabus, Peter Pan, Bolt, Vamoose, ANYTHING but just going for the cheapest fare.

Here, a millisecond of googling gives you actual recommendations.

I am an Amtrak gal myself. Kids tickets are half price.
That said the last time I had to take the but I used Bolt b/c if you join their membership program you get A group boarding. You'll need that for two kids.
Have fun!

We had good luck in the past with Washington Deluxe, but it's been years.

Bolt Bus is great. Always had great experiences with them.

I've taken Vamoose to NY twice (so a total of 4 legs). Both trips, on one leg, there were mechanical problems that caused us to leave significantly later than scheduled. I don't know if I've just been unlucky, if that's par for the course for Vamoose, or if all the bus lines are like that. I've traveled with them because they leave from Bethesda, which is convenient for me, and it's a lot cheaper than the train, but if I was traveling with kids I might pay the extra money for the train.

I've taken Bolt about 30 times and never had a problem.

Do all of the buses have bathrooms?

Bolt has a bathroom. If it's running on time/ahead of schedule the driver will also sometimes take a 15 min break at one of the Jersey Turnpike rest stops. I haven't been on the other bus lines but coach buses usually have bathrooms

Same with Vamoose on bathrooms and stops. I've taken it from Bethesda too many times to count and have never had any problems. My sister did take it once when the bus broke down on the Turnpike and it took a long time for another but to come and rescue them.
