So I just got a new standing desk at work. Does anyone have any tips to make this an easier transition?

| Comfy shoes! Or barefoot. With a mat underneath you. Seriously do not do this in heels. |

NPR did a story about these a while back. Results of using them seemed to be a mixed bag: more calories burned, but users also had more knee and back problems. They suggested that users should alternate sitting and standing during the day, too much of either can cause problems.

| Do you have a standing desk that easily converts to a sitting desk? I have a research job and use the standing desk for checking email, writing short pieces, etc. But if I need to be at my desk for most of the day, then I convert to sitting and just make sure to convert to standing for things like checking email. If not, and you have a standing desk all day, I'd highly recommend having a table with a chair where you can do reading and other tasks that don't require the computer. Standing all day is tough, so you'll want to alternate between tasks at the standing desk and tasks at the traditional desk. |

My desk converts. I find it easier to stand during calls.
Also, I try to set a goal of standing for 1 hour each morning and again each afternoon. |
| I have a converting standing desk. I stand for email and calls and random internet roaming. I sit for writing, in general. I now wear only flat, flexible shoes, and I probably stand for less than half my time these days. I have been doing this for a number of years, and I haven't lost weight because of it, but I am pretty sure it is good for me anyway! |
