Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I live near South Riding and am looking for a good OB nearby. I would like to deliver at Fair Oaks or Loudoun Hosp. I prefer a female OB who will take the time to discuss my pregnancy and listen to me, rather than just collect my co-pay. |

I like all four docs at Women Physicians of Northern Virginia. All female practice and I've found that they all are caring. My favorites are Dr. Rasul (she delivered my son) and Dr. Mazarei. They have an office in Ashburn, but they deliver at Reston. Good luck!

| Dr. Katherine Kula. She delivers at Loudoun. |
| Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look them up. Has anyone tried Dr. Neda Hashemi in Centreville? |
Thanks for the suggestion, I looked up their practice and like that they have both OBs and midwives as I was considering using a midwife (but I want an epi and had complications with my last labor). Do you know if they allow you to bring your children to your appts? I have a 15 mo old son and I am a stay-at-home mom, therefore I do not have a babysitter for him and it's hard for my husband to take so much time off from work so frequently for these appts. My current OB told me I cannot bring him to my appts. |
I brought my son with me once (who was 3 at the time) and they didn't say anything to me. In fact, as I think about it, they have toys in the waiting area, so I can't imagine they'd complain about children. |

I delivered my first with Women Physicians of Northern Virgina. They are good, but they are like a baby factory. i went to them for 15 years and they messed up my group B strep results, couldn't remember me from appointment to appointment and were not particularly supportive of my attempt at a natural birth when we were actually at the hospital. They also tried to manipulate me into a scheduled induction.
I had my second with Dr. Hashemi and she was amazing. She included my 2 year old in all of our appointments- even would let him hang out with her in her office while I got ready to leave the appointment. She was patient with my labor and worked hard with me to accomplish a VBAC. If I still lived in the area I would go to no one besides her. |
| To PP re: Dr. Hashemi. It looks like she is a sole practitioner and I am wondering who delivers your baby if she is not on call? I am reluctant to go to her for this reason--I don't want a stranger delivering my baby. |
| OP, if you're open to using a midwife, then I highly suggest Loudoun Community Midwives. They are very caring and awesome providers. |
| Have to caution you against Women's Physicians... I picked them for this pregnancy and did not have a good experience. The nurse in the Ashburn office was rude and unprofessional. The highlight of my second blood work visit was a conversation with her about her 15 yr old's readiness for sex. On my third visit, my first doctor visit, I saw Dr. Rasul. In the course of my 10 minute visit with her, she pushed a VBAC on me, Tylenol with Codeine for my headache and Zophran for nausea. I had not asked about any of those things and felt really bullied and rushed. Even worse, they never called me with my test results for any of the early preg tests they ran. I have called at least twice for results (it's been 4 weeks at this point)but it has been to no avail. I am switching to Loudoun Ob/Gyn http://www.loudounobgyn.com/home |

I had the same experience w/ Dr Rasul as far as pill-pushing. She tried to give me Zofran for my mild morning sickness, Codeine for sciatic nerve and Zoloft for depression. Dr. Thurston was very nice but the office seems very busy, almost chaotic, and I was asking her questions in the hallway. They do not seem to value patient privacy either. I'm not sure if I will be staying with them, but I still have some time to decide. Also, at this time they do not have any midwives which was one of the reasons I chose this practice. They are looking to hire some.
Anyone know what happens w/ Dr. Hashemi if you go into labor and she's not on call? |
| My recommendation is rather a UNRecommendation. I've been going to Loudoun Physicians for Women (Dr Brown, Allen, Freeman and Mills) and the experience there definitely makes my pregnancy worsen off. I have an easy pregnancy with no complication, just here and there things. And for those couple times I have to call up the nurse to get an answer, they never return my call even after I left message with full description. Their excuse to anything I've request is that "we are so busy, we can't do that" They're only quick at collecting your payments. As for answers to any of my questions, I ended up research online and educated myself and honestly, worry myself to dead sometimes because I cannot be sure about the information I find online sometimes. There are other issues, especially with the way the receptionists, the nurses and the doctors treat you. I honestly would not recommend this office to any going through pregnancy. |
