Roommate borrowed my mouthguard and my retainer!!

Anonymous
My roommate borrowed my mouthguard to play football. He admitted it afterwards and I had used it unknowingly without cleaning it after he had worn it!! Gross!! Although I wasn't very happy about it I just let it go. However he has done it again a few times and made excuses afterwards! And then the other morning I caught him sniffing my retainer which he said was just for a laugh and that he was doing a morning smell test after I had worn it overnight! I told him to put it down and never touch it again and he then put it in his mouth and said it tastes like cheese! I felt so humiliated, I was too embarrassed and shocked to say very much but it is just weird and unhygienic and I'm not sure what to say to him to stop him? He thinks its really funny but he has some weird interest in doing this kind if thing when most people wouldn't go near another guy's mouthguard or retainer!!!

+1. Totally. He's a creep and a bully with no boundaries, and those dental appliances are really expensive. Take them with you to work and keep them on you at all times until you're out of there. And anything else you value.

Retainers are specific to individual mouths. How can he wear your retainer without breaking it?

Dump him.

troll. You aren't a guy. You obviously are a girl by the way you write.

Gross, abnormal, and severe boundary issues. If you can't move, then buy a small safe and keep your personal items in there. Use a mesh bag to hold your toothbrush, soap, and deodorant and carry them in and out of the bathroom when you use them. You might want to keep your own set of dishes, too, in case he is putting them away dirty.

I have never heard of this happening. I would explore legal options.

Imagine what he does with your underwear, soap, and toothbrush.

My thought too. I can't even wear mine if I displace it for two weeks. The teeth shift. I don't believe the story.

It says the guy put the retainer in his mouth not wore it! I agree you couldn't wear someone else's retainer but the guy is saying his roommate just put it in his mouth rather than actually wearing it. That is so disgusting! I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that, but even sniffing it is going too far because that's so embarassing for the wearer because retainers do smell after you wear them overnight and it's just not fair to embarass someone like that!

Not buying this at all.
