It's been awhile since we've had a good spelling/grammar/usage rant thread.
I've seen half a dozen instances of "tow the line" in the last 15 min. of surfing. It's "toe the line," people. From the days of organized brawling, whether in barrooms or on sandlots. Towing the line is a way to catch large ocean fish. |
|
I'll just add that I'm really tired of people using "weary" for "wary." They are not the same thing.
Get a clue. |
| People, stop asking "Where you at?" when on your cell phone in public. In fact, stop saying that at all. You can say "Where are you?" and it won't take any extra syllables. |
| lose weight (not loose). Please. |
| But it is an extra letter. And I simply don't have time for dat. |
| NP. Also, it's "fazed" not "phased". |
| "Champing at the bit," NOT "Chomping at the bit" |
| It's dinner time. I am so hungry I am chomping ON the bit. |
Bullshit. You're speaking, not writing. Anyone who speaks that way surely can't write.
|
| Don't take things personally, NOT "don't take it personal." |

She went to the mall with Larla and I.....AGH!!!!
No people. She went to the mall with Larla and ME! ME! ME! |
Just ask Larla or myself if that is correct! |
+1 NAILS on a blackboard when I hear this yet, I hear it more often said this way than the proper way. |
Stop Poor Larla never hurt NOBODY!!
|
| The loose/lose thing drives me nuts and is really common. It's hard to believe so many people don't know the difference but the evidence is all around.... |
