s/o Thanksgiving veggies and sides

It's not too early to start thinking about Thanksgiving!

While I was looking for PP's turnip recipe, I found some other good looking ones. What are the new ones you're thinking of trying this year?

Candied sweet potatoes with pecan bacon syrup:

"New" recipes are never welcomed at the thanksgiving table. We make what we've always made, amen.

However if you are looking for a new recipe I highly suggest the wild rice casserole from Garden and Gun magazine. I make it for dinner parties and it's always a huge hit.

Wow. Garden and Gun magazine. So there's that.

I still remember a butternut squash tart I made to bring to my ILs years ago. It was SO yummy. Packed with cheeses, as I recall. But I remember everyone thought it was dessert at first, and then they couldn't figure out how to fit a slice on their plates.

Since then, we've reverted back to the traditional mean -- green bean casserole, sausage stuffing, rolls and cranberry sauce.

NP - It's actually a great upscale lifestyle magazine with a Southern focus. Fantastic recipes and food-related articles, and lots of info about independent artists/craftspeople. The "gun" is usually one article, usually hunting-related - they are very focused on sustainability, eat what you kill, etc. it's not exactly Guns and Ammo magazine.

Yep. It's a food & cooking magazine more than anything else. I read it for the food and the music. There's generally also one gun article, one "good dog" article, a feature on a celebrity with Southern roots (usually, but not always, an actor), a "where to eat" regional profile, something on sustainable agriculture, pieces on gardening, fashion or architecture, upcoming regional events, and a humor column by Roy Blount Jr. (the "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" guy).

It's the only magazine left that I think is much better in print than online.

I'm the OP of the Garden and Gun comment. It's a great magazine but isn't it the DCUM way to judge things you've never even seen or heard of? Don't even bother to correct the pp, let her think what she will of the magazine. Her loss, there's great recipes in there.
