French Maternal School in Gtown

Anyone have any thoughts on this school? We have generally heard good things, just looking for some additional (more recent) reviews. DH is French, so French and English are spoken at home. Thanks!

Not recent, but I heard positive reviews of their summer camp two years ago.

strong focus on reading and writing at an early age. you don't have to speak french at home, kids that age learn quickly at school

When we visited, the kids seemed unnaturally calm and quiet (the littlest kids). Any thoughts on this?

I have no idea because I'm not familiar with the school - although I have heard of it. However, maybe they self-select those types of kids in the admissions process? Since it's a private school it is free to pick and choose the kids. Maybe they tend to accept the more quiet and reserved applicants...It's just a thought

Our daughter just "graduated" from their Grande Section this past year. She started with FMS in the Petit Section. We were sad to leave the school, and really wished it had continued at least until 3rd grade. We know a lot of other FMS parents who felt the same way.

The teachers are fantastic, very engaged with the students. They have one teacher and one assistant per class. Our daughter's class was ten students. The teachers stay with the students for all three/four years. (Three years if your child starts in Petit Section, four years if your child starts in Tous Petit Section.)

The children all participate in art, music, science, pre-reading/reading, writing (in cursive) and math activities throughout the week. Overall, we found it to be a very nurturing environment and a good fit for our daughter--would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a pre-school/kindergarten option.

Agreed. My two kids went there, one last year and the other in years past. They learned a ton (math, reading, not only French language), and the school promotes communitarian values in an age-appropriate way. Lots of art, singing, etc. It is a great school.
