I was very sad to learn that many of the 8th and 9th graders left instead of staying for high school. I have a child there still and if anyone feels comfortable sharing, I would like to know where you ended up and why you decided to leave.
Thank you. |
| DC is going into 8th at Basis next year, and unless the entire world comes to a screeching halt, we definitely plan on staying. We'd be hard pressed to find another school that would work as well for us. |
| We needed a good MS option, when DC gets to 9th, we will be going elsewhere where opportunities outside of academics are more prevalent. |
| We are in the 6th now and doing just great at Basis. However, for high school may seek other options for better physical school environment, school social life and sports outside of academics. |
so are you talking sports, extra currics in genreal, or what? What is it that BASIS is missing? |
| Can anybody speak to the social scene? |
Basis has great clubs, extracurriculars and activities, the areas where they fall short is in some team sports (though their track team just won a competition), cheerleading, band. Not really the place for the uber jock but great for most other things. |
That is great for your kid and I support any parent trying to meet their kids' needs. However, for the record, BASIS offers a ton of extra-curricular activities such as the following: Science Bowl, Certamen, Debate Drama Art in the City, Cross Country Team Taekwondo Fencing Board Games Robotics Everything on the Mall Soccer Anime and lots more! |
I don;t care what this booster says, because they are completely missing the point I really want to know the truthful answer to a simple question: If your 8th or 9th grader left, where did they go? and more importantly why did they leave? That is the only question I put on the table - not a list of what we have to offer as extra curriculars, any idiot would know that if you are trying to be recruited for college you cannot stay here' but I don't think the kids who left were real prospects for college football, lax, whatever please ignore the noise and answer my question if you know my child was told at the Expo wth SWW that he would have to retake World History, for example that child of mine did not care a whit because they are unhappy if students hate Basis so much that they are willing to give up all their credits, we have an anonomous forum for you to please tell us why you left. And for students in the upper school (8th), it is really important for us to know where you went, how you landed, and how you feel now. Since so many students left, I am not sure you have to worry about anyone identifying your child, but the question is important, as is the answer.............. If your 8th or 9th grader k |
| OP you seem pretty pushy and angry and entitled to get your question answered. Not the way to go about getting the intel you want. Work on your tone. |
|
what grade was your child going in to
what school did you choose instead having landed there, how do you feel? signed, the parent of a basis kid who is about to go into upper school and really wants to know what is actaully happening thanks |
| I would bet many BASIS middle schoolers came from Hardy feeders (Key, Mann, Hearst, Stoddert) and will leave after 8th to attend their IB high school - Wilson and that was probably the plan all along. |
+1 |
Hearst feeds to Deal. |
| I meant Hyde |
