Boston hotel rec

Anonymous
Going on a quick "just us" trip in a couple of weeks to Boston. Flying into BOS... would like to stay in a hotel in the city. I would prefer not to have to rent a car. Anyone have a good hotel rec for something in the city, walking distance to most everything? I know ZERO about Boston!! Any recommendations would be helpful. Also, restaurant rec's would be welcome, as well!!!

Thanks!

I would stay at the Westin Copley. It is in the Back Bay area of Boston - walkable to lots of stuff including Newbury and Charles Streets (tons of shopping and restaurants), Boston Common, and the Public Garden. If it is nice and you don't mind a long walk, you could get to the North End and Quincy Market. If not, it is a short taxi ride away. It is also connected to Copley Place - a large shopping mall if you need anything while you are there.

For a more casual meal, I would recommend the Summer Shack.
I would definitely recommend a meal in the North End (Italian food). I haven't eaten there in awhile so maybe someone else can give recs.
I would also recommend eating at the original Pizzeria Regina. It is also in the North End, takes only cash, and gets crowded quickly, but the pizza is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good.

Have fun. Boston is a great town.

PP here again. I would definitely NOT rent a car. Driving in Boston is confusing, especially with the Big Dig, and the drivers can be quite aggressive. Stay in the city and just take taxis or the T (subway).

Thanks so much! That's very helpful.
So is $200/night pretty normal for Boston?

That's actually pretty good. We were looking last summer and the cheapest rooms at the Westin were over $300. I should add from the Westin, you can also walk to Fenway Park - home of the Red Sox.

Boston is a great walking city because it's relatively small in size. Are you coming up at the end of March or end of February? The Big Dig is over and driving isn't that difficult anymore, but cabbing it is always a safe way to go just about anywhere -- especially given the current weather conditions.

Another hotel suggestion is the Harborside Inn. It's in the Financial District near Faneuil Hall, the waterfront, North End, shopping, dining, etc. Not too far from the Commons either. We've had guests stay there before and everyone's enjoyed it.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Ended up using some Marriott points and staying at the Waterfront Marriott. Can anyone recommend a restaurant close-by? Nothing fancy...jeans.

Oh, and we're going the weekend of 2/28! Can't wait to get out of here for a bit!

If you're staying at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront -- it's a bit of a schlep to the main tourist attractions. It is brand new and gorgeous, however. You should see if you can redeem your points at Marriott Copley or Boston Marriott Long Wharf.

Hey, thanks! I was able to switch it over to the Marriott Long Wharf. Now that I'm looking at it, it does seem like a much better location. Thanks so much!!

I have stayed at the Marriott Long Wharf. It is nice. You are very close to Quincy Market and the North End. I would definitely look into going to a restaurant in the North End for dinner one night. There is great Italian food there!
