See a developmental pediatrician first if you haven't already. One, it will more than likely be covered all or in part by your insurance and will actually give you a billing code if OT visits are necessary for the future. Call KKI or Childrens and get on a wait list.

Most OTs don't accept private insurance. You pay upfront and get reimbursed by your insurance later. Depending on a diagnosis by a developmental pediatrician, you may or may not have a limited number of visits per year.

When an OT first sees a child, it traditional that they do an assessment with standardized tests, however, they can't give you a "diagnosis" of anything, especially SPD. Not to say it doesn't exist, but it's not in the DSM and you probably won't get insurance coverage for it. Run from any OT that tries to diagnose this.

Also, sensory issues like you describe often mask other things; only a developmental pediatrician can tell you.

We have had no problem finding OTs who accept private insurance, but we are in the suburbs. The eval should be covered by insurance.
