Had blood work done as RE ordered. found Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) AB above normal range (98 over 0-34). RE said it's ok. but asked me to follow up with my PCP.
I want to see a specialist. Any good thyroid specilist around? Thanks! |
| I see Dr Mark Tanen in McLean |

OP here. Thanks PP's reply.
anyone know a good specialist in rockville/bethesda area? |
| New PP here. My ATA is also high. APA and NK cells were normal, so RE said not to worry about it. Should I worry about it? |

So I go to Dr. Shabina Ahmed in Bethesda--right on the metro, which is great. I had an incident where I was going to do an FET and she found not only antibodies but also I was slightly hyper signaling hashimotos or thyroiditis. She was great and actually had her nurse call SG and we made a decision to stop the transfer and monitor me. This gave me time to check out Dr. Abassi at CFA. My RE at SG didn't blink an eye when I told him I had a history of antibodies. However, Dr. Ahmed did speak to me about the increased risk of miscarriage with antibodies; I really appreciated her. Also, I am definitely leaving SG at this time so I can have an RE who is more hands on.

| Dr. Linda Liu is the endocrinologist I see. She's in Rockville on Montrose Road. I highly recommend her. |
|
PP, did you see Dr Abassi yet?
I have Hashimoto's and I'm thinking about consulting with her. I don't like my endo, heard wonderful things about Dr Liu. |
| 16:03 here: I saw Dr. Abassi. I actually really liked her. She comes across as cut and dry. She wanted to know specific information about my cycles and previous diagnosis before we got to what I wanted to say, which was: hey, I have antibodies and a wonky thryoid test and I am concerned about my MTHFR gene. But once she got the info and we started talking, it was great. She listened to me and took notes and make a little check list of tests we needed to do and what she would recommend for us. We walked out with a lab order for a thrombophilia panel. She did ask why we were leaving SG. We told her it was because we had failed cycles and no re-evaluation of protocol. I told her I also needed someone to listen to me. My RE at Shady Grove didn't think the antibodies or the MTHFR gene were a problem and I told him before we ever did a transfer. Don't expect warm and fuzzy. But I got the feeling she will get the job done. |
