What do we have to do to get our elected officials to listen to us? I hope that those who agree will contact your representatives. |
Very interesting. It's a matter of common sense and, should, of course, cut across party lines. This is not a political issue. The naysayers will say things like, well "x" could still happen, or "y" could still happen. Not a reason not to do something. The point is that a ban of nonessential travel, with exceptions, of course, for US citizens, extraordinary circumstances, and health care workers, could be feasible. Difficult to carry out? Yes. And definitely worth exploring beyond the administration's talking points. |
World Leaders did not respond quickly enough in the spring when they had the chance. Now Ebola is out of control. Drastic measures are needed including travel restrictions. |

Well, according to DCUM, then the majority of Americans are hysterical, paranoid, hypochondriacs. So, ignore them and just pay attention to the smug DCUM "don't worry, or you're crazy" folks. |
Take your concerns to the ballot box in November. Call those up for reelection, even the dog catcher, and tell them this is an important issue to you. |
I think most of those "you're paranoid" posts are by the same person. I wouldn't take much stock in them. |
Yep. Don't worry, I don't. I just find them totally offensive. |
The dog catcher may be relevant. See, e.g., the dog situation in Spain. |
Agreed. That person is probably monitoring the situation as closely as everyone else is and waiting for the govt to take more decisive action too. No one wants to be accused of being politically incorrect. |
Absolutely. I don't know why we haven't done this already. At least stop the flights. |
"At least 26 members of the U.S. House of Representatives want travel bans and visa restrictions on citizens of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the impoverished West African nations hardest hit since the worst Ebola outbreak on record."

Thank you. |
This is an issue for informed medical opinion, not populist nonsense.
Most of you assholes would probably want a ban on nonessential travel to Africa even without Ebola. |
+1. And pass this on to your neighborhood listserves. I just don't understand why they haven't stopped the flights. Checking people at 5 U.S. airports isn't going to cut it. That is a big risk itself. |
