Cape May Summer

we are looking for a nice hotel or resort in Cape May for a reunion with friends from far off. We probably staying a week. Was thinking resort vs beach house so we could have a pool (big with kids), and maybe some other activities on site. Any revs? And how much would those Cost in July? TIA.

Cape May doesn't have resorts per say. Many of the hotels are not on the beach, they across from the beach and look like they are motel efficiencies that belong in Daytona Beach. Don't get me wrong, we really like CM, but you're not going to find a resort there like in FL or other beach communities.

Aside from getting a house (hint, expand your search to West Cape May) look at Congress Hall. But I would not want to spend a week there.

There was a few years back a Marriott a few miles north, but I haven't found it online lately (also haven't looked). It might have changed hands and done gone Wyndem on us.

Congress Hall is a nice resort on the beach.

Worst ever week at the beach. Why in the world would you choose it?

I've been to Cape May hundreds of times and traveled to resorts all over the world. But I'd never use them both in the same sentence: if you're looking for a resort in Cape May, you don't understand one or the other.

Let rephrase question then. What beach location on East coast offers enough amusements for 10 days? Of the east coast beaches we thought cape may worked ok BC the sandpiper and congress had a kids club, decent pools, and easy ocean access. Cape may has a cutesy downtown, wildwood for a day of amusements, and even a little Zoo.

We traveled before with them in Europe at all-inclusive resorts and trying to be equally good hosts in our homeland but not sure what would work. Fear a beach house would have the kids climbing wall by day 6 (Ages 3-8).

We are considering the sandpiper resort in Florida, but July in Florida is like vacationing on Venus. Carribeans would be ok option except Hurricanes season and that joint pain virus is a little weird.

Any all-inclusive type resorts or even just locales with diverse activities for a long holiday on the east coast? Tia.

You could likely find a nice big house in Cape May Point with its own pool. CMP is a very small-town beach atmosphere, so perhaps not exciting enough. As above there is the zoo, which I adore. Also mini-golf, lighthouse, birding, cutesy downtown.

FWIW Wildwood did NOT get good reviews from the members of my family that wen there for the day this year.

So, if you want relatively low-key beach town Americana with enough amusements for one outing a day, Cape May [Point] house with a pool would be great. If your group will need a little more excitement, it probably wouldn't work.

We did look around for an all-inclusive in the area and didn't find much.

Look for a house at Sea Colony Bethany Beach DE. Check out Sea Colony recreation. They have tennis, swimming, weekly bonfire and planned activities for children and adults. You can drive north and catch a ferry to Cape May if you want to do a day trip there.

Yes I would recommend Delaware beaches. Plenty to do...boardwalks, water park for kids, OC amusements, ponies at assateague, ferry to cape may, etx

Consider Ocean Club or La Mer in Cape May.

Or Hilton Head

Ugh, no. We drove by this place and look me put this into perspective. It's a couple of date, ugly brown huge high rise condo planted on the beach with a tacky little strip mall across the street to walk to. Anything else requires a car ride to I assume what they bill as "downtown" Bethany.

I've been going to Cape May for over 30 years. It is a great quaint beach town with lots of things to do, but as others said, the hotel accommodations are not "resort" types. For a true Victorian experience, there is the Inn of Cape May. Great hotel - stayed there for many years. And it has a pool. Congress is great, too. Beach Shack is fun with families also. If you don't stay there, eat at Rusty Nail and hang outside with the bonfire. Whatever you decide, if you decide Cape May is the place, book it as soon as you can. Summer fills up very quickly.

You will find plenty to do for a week. Besides the beach, most hotels have a pool. And there are two arcades and a small promenade. The Washington Street Mall is great for evening walks. Spend one evening at Sunset Beach to search for Cape May diamonds and to watch the lowering of the flag. Rent bikes and ride around Cape May Pt., climb the lighthouse, check out the nature center, etc.

The Cape May Zoo is an excellent zoo and not small at all! It's a wonderful day trip. For amusements and a typical Jersey boardwalk scene, SKIP WILDWOOD and go directly to Ocean City (NJ). Great boardwalk, amusements, nice class of people - not a wild party group. It's a bit farther than Wildwood but still only about 30 minutes.

For other things to do, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) has all kinds of tours, trolley rides, ghost tours, historic homes tours, etc.

Lots of good restaurants. Don't miss the Lobster House -a Cape May institution.

Unless you are looking for scheduled activities like Club Med or a cruise, you will not be bored in Cape May. We take our kids for a week every summer and they talk about it all year long. And we never run out of things to do and still haven't done everything we want to. we LOVE it there!

This. Not comparable to what you're trying to do in Cape May.
