What is your budget and where do you and/or spouse work? Commute impacts the answer as the shortest commute means more time at home with child and has a greater impact than some of the differences between some schools. Budget also helps figure out what schools are out of your pocket book.

$400k is tough in Fairfax, not impossible. The commute is another consideration. Farragut isn't really close to VRE. Being in Maryland along the Red Line might make more sense. Are you looking for a condo, townhouse or single family house?

I would live in a small apartment if it meant my kid going to the right school...

Right now my kid is in an EAC in Fairfax and its going horribly
