The weather got to me and I made a mincemeat pie, but there's still a half jar of the stuff. I'm the only person who likes it so making a second pie is not among my options. Before I trash it, what can I do with it that would be worthwhile saving?
TIA. |
| Am I right that that's a fruity type thing? How about adding it as a topping to vanilla icecream? Or yogurt or breakfast? |
Yes, it is apples and raisins with spices and rum. Actually that would be nice with plain Greek yogurt. Thanks! |
| Can you also just freeze it in a ziplock bag in case you want a mincemeat pie again in a couple of months? |
|
PP again. You can also make apple pie and add a little to the apples when sautéing them in the butter for more flavor.
I think there was an episode of the Splendid Table radio show where someone called in an asked what to do with leftover mincemeat and she had fun suggestions. |
| Fill triangles of pie crust to make tasty stuffed cookies. |
Mincemeat, like fruit cake, isn't tasty. |
Thanks. I will also see if that episode is archived. |
| Make a crumble like apple crumble only with mincemeat. |
| Make and freeze mince pies. Pull them out at Christmas. |
| I like it in crumb bars. I cut it with apple butter and the two tastes together against the bland background of butter/flour really works. |
| serve with pork chops or roasted pork (on top of or as a side) |
| Nigella has a recipe for something called mincemeat parcels with bourbon butter....Google it and you'll see it. Looks good, and I am not a mincemeat fan! |
