Ha! People always assume the worst. I graduated from law school. This person was brought in as an operations person in the organization because the top guy has been sued for sexual harassment and they brought her in to do his job.

The age difference does not matter. Being a know it all sounds annoying. People like that don't change. Make your plan to learn to deal with a jerky boss or move to a new job. Don't make it complicated or having anything to do with age. |

At some point it has to happen. I supervise a woman 15 years older. She actually was a little cooler to me until she found out my real age (she thought I was younger). I am more qualified. What am I supposed to do...turn down jobs if my directs aren't younger?
I would suggest examine your own attitude, to be honest. Her "know it all" from your point of view might be countered with a "she has outdated skills" (meaning you) from her point if view. Two sides to every story, right? |

I think that generational differences can come into play here. I work in retail and there is coverage issues. My boss would only approve me for time off it was convenient for her. Since I already raised my kids, my boss would not approve my time off if she had a personal conflict. In addition, she would revoke approved time off at whim.
I am looking for another job. |

I'm 48; new boss us 26. I find it hysterical. While he has millennial qualities, he's not self-absorbed. I respect him, but he does have a lot to learn. |
omg - hysterical, OP! My friend, who's in her mid-40s, has one millennial under her. She said it's deadly, as the lady has no respect for superiors. I told her to write her up. My other friend had a crew of millennials under her. HER supervisor told her she had to "learn" how to deal with them so that they're productive. She left and is now much happier. I prefer my own kind - the Gen Xers. |
