10 month old chewing on wood crib rail

i just noticed my son has been chewing on his crib rail. how dangerous is this? he has two bottom teeth and is always biting things but i never noticed this. what can i buy to prevent this? do they wake up in the middle of the night to do this? will they grow out of this? this has to have been goin on awhile since i see quite a few little teeth scrapes.

Well, cribs are supposed to have non-toxic paint/stain on them these days, so it's probably not a danger.

I use Gummi Crib Rail Cover, which I got at BuyBuyBaby. It adheres easily overtop of the rail. you remove it using a hair dryer (haven't tried that part yet, as my toddler still occasionally bites).
