30 Day Shred

Anonymous
I've seen this mentioned a few times in this forum. I just got this for the days that I can't make it to the gym (cold & flu season is killing me because I take my 9 month old and 4 year old with me). For those of you that have been doing this, how long did it take before you felt and saw results. Also, what level did you start on? I think the first cycle of level 1 is a killer and I work out regularly! I haven't even looked at levels 2 or 3.

I've been doing the shred for 4 days - level one - and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks the first level is intense. I was starting to think I was just a big weenie or something. I haven't seen anything on the scale, but after only four days I do feel more toned, especially in the the ol' postpartem belly area.

I like this work-out better than the gym. It is truly cutting-edge -- she's using many of the same moves as my personal trainer did when I could afford a personal trainer. Very efficient.

The very first time I did Level 1, I had to modify my push-ups. Now level 1, while not a breeze, is fairly comfortable for me. You do not have to do all three workouts together, but I usually push myself through 2 or 3 of them. Some of the moves in Level 2 are easier for me than some of the moves in Level 1. Same with Level 3. It all depends on your own strengths and weaknesses. For instance, in level 2 there is a lot of lunging, and for some reason it hurts my left knee. But there's also an exercise where you stand on one leg and keep extending the other while doing shoulder presses. Now, Jillian says this is killer, but I find it easy.

You will feel it after one day. I've been doing it for a week and a half and already see results in my back and arms.

I have only one criticism of this video : they use only one set of what looks to be fairly light weights for the whole thing. That does not make much sense to me. If I'm doing a chest-fly, I want at least 10 lbs. If I'm doing squats with a V-press, I may want 3 (or even two). If I'm going to do jumping jacks with weights in my hands I don't want to club myself with an 8-pounder. So I recommend having some 2, 3, 5, 8 and 10 pound weights. Pick and choose.

I saw results very quickly using this DVD, but I was also watching my calories very closely. I did 10 days at each of the three levels initially, and now I do the video a couple times a week (alternating levels) on days that I don't do regular cardio. I agree with the suggestion to have various weights on hand. I use 3lb, 5lb, and 8lb. I was incredibly sore the first week, but you will build up your muscle and stamina fairly quickly.

I used it in the fall and saw results within 2 weeks. Then got into the Thanksgiving / Christmas / Cold season and just starting it again this week.

There are a lot of reviews on amazon on this video with some tips on how to work the different levels.

Would this be appropriate for someone who needs low impact exercises due to knee issues?

Huh. I'm the one that is experiencing pain in my knees with some of the lunges.

If you have chronic, serious knee problems, this probably isn't the program for you. If it's just a small problem, you can manage it by modifying the exercises, which the video shows you how to do.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can't really answer your question because I don't know what you are experiencing.

I would not recommend 30 day shred for anyone with knee problems.

Part of Level 1 cardio is jumping jacks and butt kicks (I can't remember the other right now). I would think that these would be difficult to modify and hard on your knees.

Do you need any equipment to do this? Probably too late to be asking since I just ordered the DVD, but oh well...

PP - You just need some hand weights (I use 3 lbs.) and a mat if you have hard floors.

OP Here - I think the previous recommendations for multiple sets of hand weights are good ones. I'm currently using 2, 3 and 5, but I wish I had an 8 or 10 for the chest flies.

How soon after a c section could this work out be started?

For those of you with Comcast On Demand you can try segments of The Shred out in the exercise section for free. Actually there are about a hundred exercise segmanets to do. Go to On Demand, Exercise TV and select the exercise you want to do.

Turbo Jam is also a great dvd. You can order them on Amazon and the results are amazing. It really works the abs.
