How does this work? I believe that students typically apply to colleges/universities in the fall/winter of their last year of HS, is that right? So when do they take the SAT exams? Later in that same year, or do they take the exams the year before (in 11th grade)?
How old is your DC? Timing depends on whether you are applying to Early Action (EA, not binding), Early decision (ED, binding), rolling admission (can send in anytime after junior year in most cases); or regular decision (RD). A lot of EA and ED are due by Nov 1 or December 1 of senior year so you want to take the exam starting in Junior year (at least once) and try again before app is due beginning of senior year. Every family uses slightly different path so there is not one "right answer".
Typically, tests are taken during the junior year. My kids took the SAT test 2 times so you have to plan. Example: January and May. Another option are the ACTs.And finally, there are subject tests for the higher tiered schools. Test schedules are available online or thru your guidance counselor and there are registration deadlines. Student needs to look at test schedules and plan accordingly. You can only take 1 test per day. Another thing:I don't believe any tests are administered during the summer months. Hope this helps.
