| The open window on a job for which I am qualified and would like to apply is very short. It opened this Friday and closes tomorrow. Is there any point in re-formatting my fed resume for this? I don't want to waste several hours. The posting is for an overseas assignment for which military spouses receive preference. My guess is that they have the candidate that they want and are just going through the required motions by posting for as short a period as possible. Thoughts? |
| Ha! I see someone asked the same question just down the page. Sorry about the repeat. |
|
Fri-Mon sounds suspect. I would pass.
A Mon-Fri posting is likely a real job however. |
|
NP. Couldn't it just be HR error? I've seen similar happen before.
OP, just apply. It really doesn't take that long. |
| Anything less than 2 weeks and it's likely filled. |
So not true. I have applied to each position I have received and all were listed for a week or less. All within the past 5 years (3 total positions). I have only known the hiring manager on 1 of those 3 applications. |
| The weird thing is my agency posted a job that way (friday to monday) and I KNOW we really were looking to hire. I have zero idea why they posted it that way. |
| They don't want to deal with thousands of applications maybe? My agency opens jobs for weeks, then complains of how much work it is to wade through all these applicants. |
| Maybe they have to post the job before the end of September - end of the fiscal year. |
| I'd call HR and find out if they made a mistake. |
| Apply. Even if already filled, if you are as qualified as you say you are and make it to the top of the pool they will have to interview you. This could be your chance to make an impression and get their wheels spinning about how they can bring you in under some other announcement. |
This could very well be the case. |
| Thank you all for the feedback! I am going to apply. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose. |
