Curtain hanging question

Anonymous
I've read all the rules that curtains should just skim the floor but my family room ceilings are only 7'-7" tall and the curtains I bought are 84" and I thought it would be better to try to hang them as close to the ceiling as possible to visually add height in the room. But where I feel like they should be placed proportionately on the wall between the window head and ceiling will leave the bottom about 3" from the floor at the top of my base trim. Would this really be noticeable and look weird? These curtains will not be behind any furniture and are casual in style. We probably won't even close them since we already have a shade on the window, but I'd like them to soften the room and add warmth and color.

They can't be that far off the ground. They should be skimming it.

That will look wrong. Sorry, OP.

If you're not hanging half-curtains then they should go all the way down. Three inches off the floor will look strange.

Could you buy trim and have it added to the bottom of curtains?

I would just hang the curtains 3" lower so that your curtains kiss the floor. #1 way to make your curtains look cheap is to have a big gap at the bottom.

Curtains that don't graze the floor look like men in pants that are too short.

Agree. They've gotta brush the ground.
