Extra person in the room at Disney World?

Anonymous
My family of 5 doesn't "fit" into a moderate category hotel room at Walt Disney World (limit 4). But a deluxe room that accomodates 5+ doesn't "fit" my budget. My youngest though is 3, so I don't think it's a big deal to omit him from the reservation and just discretely check in without him. I know we'll have to buy his ticket separately, and our food is going to be out of pocket (not using the dining plan) so I'm good there.

Has anyone ever done this? Did you get caught? Ever heard of anyone getting caught?

Things to remember regarding hotel room occupancy: it is not just about the hotel making extra money, it is about fire code. If you make your reservation and say " four in the room", every single hotel report (and those submitted to the fire chief) will state " four people in room XXX". The firecode is determined based on size of room and the volume of "stuff" it will safely accommodate. It is also generally related to roll-away beds because guest rooms that accommodate four people, will do so in a double-double bedded room type. and then it will not hold the roll-away bed for the fifth person without creating an unsafe environment.
So - the hotel recommendation to reserve the appropriately sized room is accurate.

If your three year old is sleeping on the floor, though, the only thing causing an impact is all of the stuff you travel with.

And yes, I work in hotels...I hope it is helpful

Have you thought about the Fort Wilderness Campground?

They just redid the cabins there and I think they are in the moderate category.

I have stayed there a few times and the space is really nice -and if you are on a bit of a budget, it is nice as all of them have kitchenettes as well as full size refrig.

The layout is 1 room with a full (or queen?) size bed and bunk beds and the common space with a murphy bed.

Also, you save on transportation (or possibly do) as you can avoid a rental car and take the free disney transportation from the airport.
