We don't normally buy souvenirs at the end of a trip before going home.
This time we were in Hawaii and thought we would bring some goodies back. So I bought some cookies and chocolate. I was a bit disappointed when the label had hydrogenated oil on the list, though! (Cookkwe brand) and chocolate Mac nuts are alway yummy but I find exact same brand for cheaper in mainland. What do you normally get for souvenirs? I find pictures capture the good memories the best and cheapest. However as our kids r growing up and we are traveling a lot more, I would like to know if thers anything worth bringing home when we travel. I hate seeing made in China crap! Maybe when we visit china but.... So share your tips! Any destination! |
| We collect Christmas ornaments. It's awesome to decorate the tree come Christmas time because the ornaments have so many memories attached to the. Best part is that we get to put them away after the holiday is over! |
| I let the kids each pick a refrigerator magnet. Something unique, no rubbery "cheap" ones. I like the Xmas ornament idea too! |
| We used to do Christmas tree ornaments but got to the point where we have too many. So now we do snow globes and refrigerator magnets. Also I do a photo collage for the family room wall from each trip. |
Are snow globes ok through airport security? |
We do this and love exactly the same things about it. |
| I buy one ornament each year that reminds me of my year. I don't always travel but when I do, I often will get an ornament on my trip. Like you OP I am not big on bringing crap home. I usually figure pictures are enough, and I will also buy a few postcards in case my pictures aren't that great. I also like to keep a journal during the trip to write down the things I did, impressions etc. Also, I keep ticket stubs and that type of thing. Lastly, I buy a pop-out map of the location and use a sharpie to draw a small dot next to each place on the map that I visit. |
| Exotic diseases.... |

| Earrings. |

Family gets a fridge magnet (and our garage fridge is covered!). Each kid gets a trinket but it has to be related to the trip. Typically junkie like a cheap snow globe or giant pencil. Really anything they want but cheap.
They love the magnets and have bright them in for somehow and tell many times. |
| I buy postcards and write myself notes from the trip. I keep them in a box. Also I try to buy something unique and local - pottery, jewelry from an artist, etc. |

DH and I used to collect fridge magnets. The ceramic ones are mostly broken now. Kids...
The metal and rubber ones are best. From Hawaii, I loved the Hawaiian Cookie Company and Hurricane Popcorn! |
| These days, I try to buy one larger item that is non cheap and tacky. From Cambodia, I bought a replica of a temple carving. |
