I'm currently temping, re-entering the workforce. I was placed with a great organization. I'm super interested in working here, and several positions have become available. The HR manager encouraged me to apply for any of the jobs I was interested in. I applied for two that are on my team. Both pretty much entry level, though I'm fine it with as I have to start somewhere and I want to work here. When I mentioned applying to the 2 women who would be the supervisors for the positions, they were both excited and encouraging. I have been asked to move to the second stage- video interviews (kind of strange, but I guess that's how they do it here).
I have decided I am much more interested in one of jobs than the other. Do you think I should continue to try my hardest for both of them? The one I'm more interested in I would enjoy the work and would like to be doing the work into the future. The other one I can do, but I don't want to focus on that area forever. For example I was thinking about interview questions, such as where I see myself in 5 years. I have not done either one of the jobs before, but I have a lot of transferable skills. How do I honestly sell myself on both of the positions, when there is one I prefer? I don't know what do to that will not turn off the HR manager or one of the supervisors from hiring me. Maybe I should have only applied to one of them, but it seems like its too late now? Any advice? |
| Sell yourself hard for both positions - it is better to have the option of decline the one you don't want. And be prepared to accept and find the beauty in the non-so-desired one - that way you can't lose either way. |
