| I know this is generally a bad design practice.. my problem is that I am hoping to reuse most of our existing fixtures, which have a chrome finish, as part of our bathroom renovation. Then I found the perfect style/price vanity lights... and they only come in brushed nickel. Can I get away with that one deviation or will it look wrong? |
| You'll regret it. not a fan of brushed nickel in the bathroom unless its very modern. |
| It will look wrong. |
| Can you spray paint the chrome fixtures w/ a brushed nickel spray paint to match? |
OP here. I was actually wondering the opposite.... if there was a chrome finish I could spray paint the brushed nickel? I'll have to look into that. |
| No, don't do it. It looks very off. |
| I'm going to disagree just a bit. The old rules about every finish having to match have gone by the way side for the most part, but you still need to make it look deliberate. Most designers suggest that if you're going to mix finishes, you should have more than one item of each finish so that it looks intentional. I think it can look nice. We had a bathroom with all brushed nickel and it ended up looking flat to me. We just did our kitchen over and have some brushed and some polished fixtures. It looks nice. Some of this may depend on the size of your bathroom. Do you have room to incorporate a few items of each finish ( accessories, etc.)? |
I agree. Sometimes too matchy is not great either. |
| Don't paint the fixtures |
