We're renting a house this August with our 8-month old, 2.5 year old, and grandparents. Are there interesting restaurants? Does the boardwalk have anything besides coffee shops and Candy Kitchens? Just trying to gauge whether there's any kind of busy action akin to Rehoboth, if to a less extent. |
there is one nice playground, with attached basketball courts - always people on both, regardless of the time. there are bike rentals with kid trailers and probably something "in line skate rental". I dont know how much this differs from Rehobeth because the only difference I see on the boardwalk is the arcade? |
It's pretty sleepy compared to Rehoboth. Mango's on the beach is a nice restaurant. Owned by the same people as the one in Alexandria. Nice views, decent food, family friendly. Baja Beach Grill is decent. Fenwick Crabhouse in Fenwick Island is good. Harpoon Hanna's (Fenwick Island) has been hit or miss over the years. It used to be excellent, but haven't been there recently.
There was a farmer's market on Sundays near the bank as well (Garfield Parkway) There is a bandstand on the boardwalk, and there are regular free concerts on the weekends. A lot of it is oldies, like 50s music, but my young kids get a kick out of it. There's a cute little fair trade store called Made by Hand, I think, going South on Coastal Highway, in a strip mall on the West side of the highway. It's got some neat stuff to look through/buy. Mostly, though, we hit the pool and go biking. The old part of Bethany is very walkable, and great for biking, so if you want to just go for lazy walks with the kids, it's wonderful. |
There is mini-golf, too, and a sweet little toy store. A few blocks from the boardwalk.
Honestly I find Bethany too sleepy after about 3 days. OTOH, we're not a family that enjoys sitting on the beach day after day after day after .... others probably feel differently. When we get antsy, we just drive to Rehoboth. |
Which is why I love Bethany so much. You can get to both Rehoboth and OC quickly if you want more...but the drunk teens aren't puking in your front yard/porch...like they do in OC. |
