What did you tell your 4 year old about the WPPSI?

We've done no prep at all - so DC definitely isn't familiar with any aspect of the test and has never been in any comperable situation. What did you tell your child about what they were doing?

"We're going to play some games and do some puzzles with a nice lady. She is a psychologist and she is giving your brain a check-up, just like the doctor gives your body a check-up. It's important to try your hardest so she can see how well your brain works. Don't worry about it if you can't solve a puzzle, though. It's just to see how far your brain will stretch. Some of those puzzles are hard for Mommy, too."

I know I told him he was going to do puzzles and games and I'm not sure if I told him it was to help us decide what kindergarden would be a good fit or not.

I do know we took the whole day off from Pre-K and he got a trip to see Santa and go to the Lego store after. (Early December testing date.)

I'm not a psychologist, but I do academic testing as part of my job. I tell kids I'm trying to sort out what they already know, so i can decide what to teach them next. I tell them that everyone gets some questions wrong and some questions right, but that they should try their best because if they get something wrong that they really do know I will teach it to them again, and that would be boring. It gives them a reason to exert effort, without making it into a scary thing.

I told my DC this was the most important test on the planet. If he didn't do well his destiny was set and he would be considered a failure for the rest of his life. This would be evidenced by him having to attend a non "Big 3" school and Mommy may forgive, but she'll never forget not being able to put that magnetic oval on the Tahoe.
