| DC is being recruited by Bates...looking for constructive thoughts? Visited it and came away with a bit of a "crunchy" feel to it. Perhaps not an entirely fair view? Good school though |
Is it safe for girls? It was high on the DOE sexual assault list wasn't it? |
| I had a friend who went there years ago, and she really liked it. Maine is beautiful. I think if you like SLAC's, then its a good choice. |
| If Bates seemed too crunchy to her, other NESCAC schools that would be less crunchy are Conn College, Trinity and Hamilton (and academically more similar to Bates). Wesleyan more crunchy, Middlebury/Bowdoin/Williams/Amherst significantly harder to get into in terms of academic credentials. |

I went there a lot of years ago. It was crunchy, but not excessively so, more of a laid-back vibe I thought. Also very outdoorsy, especially for winter sports, but also there were plenty of people, like me, who weren't into that. I think I got an excellent education, and I would make the same choice again.
Don't know about sexual assaults, although back in the day, I wasn't overly fond of how they handled disciplinary issues. But I'm not thinking of anything as serious as sexual assault. |
Recruited for a sport? |
| We havea friend who teaches there. It's definitely a school with a lot of very wealthy students. It has a pretty outdoorsy vibe. It is, as far as I can tell, a very good school with good students and faculty. |
If you can't pay to island hop in winter and kayak north of the Arctic Circle (OK--that's exaggeration) in summer, is it a difficult place to be? How are the sciences? Math? Thanks! |
