homework at title 1 ES - fcps

Our school don't assigned homework until October. I'm wondering when other ES assigned homework.

Some FCPS elementary schools with high FARMS/ESL don't assign homework AT ALL for the entire year.

What grade? Our local FCPS did not do K homework until about February or so. First Grader already has homework. It's only reading but it was available at the Open House before school started.

My ds elementary is not a title one school. He's in third grade. He has had homework about half the time. If they get the work done in class, she doesn't assign extra homework. They are expected to read 20 minutes a day.

Why so much interest in homework lately?

5yo DS just started kindergarten. He gets homework daily. It takes about 5 minutes. We are also told to read 20 minutes per day.

We are not title 1 but have high farms.

It depends on the individual school. Different Principals have different approaches. It makes sense that in schools where fewer children have homework support at home that there would be less homework assigned. My eldest transferred from one of the High SES schools to one where ~30% of the students received free/reduced price meals. The homework load difference was significant. All projects were done at school in the new school.

With standards based grading homework isn't supposed to be graded, so it makes sense that significant projects would be done at school.

This was before standards based grading.
