Stone Ridge Traffic

I commute daily down Wisconsin Avenue around 3 pm. What is SR doing at dismissal that is causing backups on Wisconsin Avenue? This has never been the case in prior years ad traffic clears up past the entrance to the school on Wisconsin. I am surprised the police have not gotten involved since it is causing major delays in front of the Naval Hospital which some may see as a security threat. It took 45 minutes yesterday to go from Jones Bridge to Cedar. Is this temporary or a new traffic pattern? It seems that more people are now using this entrance when in years past it seemed like Cedar Lane was the major point of entry and exit.

I think the entrance on Wisconsin is a new entrance/exit, which the school got as part of the deal to widen the road and cut into their property. The ongoing construction work on Cedar is probably pushing more people into taking the Wisconsin exit/entrance. That whole area is a HUGE mess. I think the lights are really badly timed going north -- I can often see big gaps in traffic with cars just sitting waiting for those lights between Medical Center and Strathmore to change to green. Maybe they also made the green light across Cedar last longer, given that many of the lanes east of Wisc. are still closed off with the construction and there's a funnel affect? I take the bus north on that road and honestly it's way faster to walk.

You are the traffic.

They moved the entrance on Cedar Lane, but they also made the roadway around campus only run One Way now which has definitely changed the traffic pattern.

I work at the Navy hospital. It's definely out fault. The infrastructure expansion and merger with Walter Reed has not been well managed and will ultimately be unsustainable.

There actually are police officers directing traffic at both entrances/exits and I don't think SR is contributing much to the backups. The particularly bad backups the past few days seem to be because of the road construction, which I think is a separate project from the on campus Stone Ridge construction. The northbound right lane of Rockville Pike has been been blocked near Cedar & I think that is at least part of the delays.

Yes, the NIH/Navy traffic has made that part of Wisconsin a nightmare over the last decade.

They're doing major construction at Stone Ridge, which has added. But traffic is always backed up at school drop offs/pick ups.
