For those who got into the new Immersion or Dual Language Spanish programs. How are they working so far?
|
DS not yet bilingual. Fail. |
| Truly, would love some I out also. We are considering applying for either French or Spanish or going private. |
| Autocorrect...I meant input |

I went to the academic fair and saw the schedule. I see the day starts at 7:45. Does the day end at 1:30? The 15 minutes of recess... Is that only Mon tues Wed and then no recess the rest of the week? Social studies and science are a shared 30 minute session?
What is the environment and facility like at the various location? How is the parental involvement thusfar? |

My son is at Cesar Chavez dual language and we both love it!! He is speaking spanish and loves learning the language, they make it really fun (his words). They have 15-20 minutes recess almost everyday if weather permits. They also have PE 1-2 times a week. The Spanish teacher speaks only spanish and I drop him off in the am and she was giving commands in Spanish the second week and he understood what she was saying. They have reading logs in both Spanish and English every week. I am very happy with the program and the school. The school is really small, but the teachers and administration are very attentive and really enjoy and take care of the kids during the day. My son came from the St. Jerome montessori preschool and I am much happier with this school than I ever was with St. Jerome. It has truly been a blessing just to have him somewhere he enjoys and with teachers we both like.
The class size is small (16 students in his class). I suspect that the Kindergarten classes will be larger next year because it will be the second year as a speciality program school. |
| Great feedback. What do you do for aftercare. |
|
They don't have aftercare at the school, but I know the ymca picks up at least one kindergartener that is in my ds class. There is also rollingcrest community center that has a bus that picks up. I know that aftercare is an issue for some of the other parents and they are working on it via the PTO to get something at the school. The problem is the school is small and it would be hard to accommodate an aftercare program at the school. I stay at home so aftercare is not an issue for me, but I know several parents who have been discussing the issue and they are determined to do something, so hopefully next year they will have a solution.
