Looking for a small school for DD and stumbled across it on the web.
Anyone have anything to share about it? TIA |

IMO, Grove City is a not very rigorous or well known Christian college in a rural area that would make internships and off campus social or other opportunities a challenge. OTOH if you're looking for a Christian college away from temptation Grove City could be it.
Is your only criteria a small school? List your other criteria and maybe others can offer suggestions. Right off the bat I would suggest Allegheny College or Washington & Jefferson College, which are liberal arts colleges in the same region but much more rigorous. Both were recently ranked in the top 100 for liberal arts colleges by US News. Hope that helps. |

The religious (Christian) aspect of Grove City is significant and conservative. The costs and available financial aid used to be quite different from other schools that might be considered comparisons. If I remember correctly, they had a generally lower cost and very generous aid, but were restrictive in the types of federal financial aid that they accepted.
The academics are generally consistent with secular or lightly-religious liberal arts colleges, which cannot be said for many of the highly religious schools. It's not known for rigorous academics, but it's not a slouch school and I've known people to go on to med school or PhD programs in the sciences. Bouncing off the PP with a few other suggestions, you might find some interesting options among the 'Colleges That Change Lives' set: http://www.ctcl.org/ |
| It's more of a Christian matchmaking service than a college. |

In comparison to Allegheny and Washington and Jefferson, Grove City has higher freshman retention rate and 6 year graduation rate. The differential in the US News ranking can partially be attributed to the Grove City having a higher admissions rate than the others. I would argue that Grove City is more self-selecting, as the average ACT and SAT scores among the 3 are very similar.
Wouldn't put Grove City above or below those, or other similar sized LACs. Strong Christian and conservative bend, and reasonable tuition for private, with faculty:student ratio well below most public schools. Good option for a personalized education. |
