No. Not the same thing. The parallel I can draw is the difference between zucchini and cucumber.
Snake gourd will taste more akin to "Torai" (Hindi word), used for curries - Asian cucumbers are more like "Kakdi" (Hindi word) - you can eat it without peeling the skin because skin is usually thin. Sweeter than regular cucumber and a little dryer. Used for salads -
