ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

McLean RL teams are not that good. Watching their 2011G RL playing Arlington RL. Huge difference in style of play, organization in the field. You can clearly tell Arlington do care about their RL team. MYS not so much and that starts by assigning the right coach and play the right players that can get results. MYS just follow pay to play and coaches avoid parents headache by playing everyone although they know some players can cause them 3 goals in 10 minutes. The result? 4-0 for Arlington.

I hope this FU thing on net improves the second teams too. At the 2010B level, both MYS and VYS struggle a lot, and BRYC was bounced out. Its not a good situation for anyone.

If don’t think it is helping because all other ECNL kids ( at least for girls) went to other ECNL teams or GA. Aside from Arlington (even arlingron RL is not that much but much better compared to other RL teams) the RL teams are usually not competitive.

+1000. With the SYC GA team, even top RL players are also leaving RL.

That is true. Nobody wants to get stuck playing RL. It is a marketing tool for ECNL to keep the kids around but in reality RL teams don’t benefit as much as NL or GA teams.

There are plenty of families that do not want to travel for the sake of traveling (i.e. GA teams), not looking to play college and just looking for the highest level of play without the commitment of a high-end college recruit.

This. Exactly. Incoming comments "garbage blah blah, your kid stinks, wasting money they should play rec, etc."

VDA taking care of business this weekend, maybe the FCV influx is a real gamechanger?

Maybe, but it doesn't change that RL isn't a very high level of play. It's 100% ECNL marketing tool as prior post said. Clubs get to take the extra $$ with ECNL tag line, with no real intention as an ECNL pipeline. TDs and coaches don't care since ECNL is the priority. Kids that do care and want to play high level find a way to leave.

PP stirring the pot. FCV players did not play for VDA 2010 this weekend.

In fairness Arlington has a player pool double the size of McLean’s, so they should dominate McLean when playing top vs top and 2nd vs 2nd. Historically McLean outperformed their size, whether due to coaching or a draw from outside, but both of those advantages are gone now. Expected McLean to outperform Arlington and Loudoun (3x size) is just not realistic.

100% agree. Traveling is just an excuse. The reality if you are U13 and you are not in ECNL, GA or MLS Next (boys), there is no need to deal with politics headache in RL or other lower travel programs. Just play Rec and call it a day and the kid will enjoy more

+1. What an ignorant comment by PP.

Nope. Kids want to be challenged and play with and against like competition. Having different leagues and levels solves for that. Kids who really enjoy soccer and are committed and want to play 3 times a week (even if they don't want to (or can't) play college) don't want to be on a team with Sally from band who just wants to get out and run around with her friends once a week. Trust me, I have one of each kid. My kid in RL has no interest in playing with kids like my other who plays rec. And vice versa -- rec player doesn't want to play 3 times a week and play against (or with kids) who take it so seriously.

There is obviously demand for multiple tiers -- ECNL, RL and multiple levels of NCSL, etc. I don't where you get off which such an inane, uninformed opinion.
