Why no Merit Scholars at Einstein? - Why did it not make Newsweek's list?

My child is slated for Einstein. I LOVE Silver Spring and my local ES, but can someone tell me about academics at Einstein?

Einstein usually has one merit scholar a year since my kids have been here. Must be an off year.

My kids have been very happy and challenged at Einstein. Lots of AP classes available, rigorous IB program. It's a nice mix of kids. Lots of talented kids in the VAC program.

Very caring administration and teachers.

You must be very naive. Have you ever been to Einstein?

My kids didn't go to Einstein but I think it's fair to say it is not one of the high performing HS in the county. Only 1/2 of high schools in MCPS has at least 1 national merit semi fianlists so, at least, its not alone. This year's cutoff score for Maryland was 221 (equivalent to 2210 SAT - not counting essay) so mark is set pretty high.

We don't live near Einstein (Blair is our school) but I know five or six kids who went there and their families were very pleased. I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Op here - I know, I just thought it was improving. Caring admin and teachers are all well and good but do they have high expectations?

Einstein has an IB program. My neighbors' kids go there and are very happy. I met an arty musical kid who goes there and loves it.

You, as a parent, set the expectations not the school.

I already do, but it sure does make it difficult when the school environment may not.

And I'm sure that the gang members really care about your expectations!

Real mature posters on this thread!

OP - what's your concern about Einstein? Are you concerned about lack of good teachers, lack of motivated students, or... what?
