It was sort of vaguely in my head but I didn't really think about it. When an announcement came home that DD's school was doing a Grandparents Day event in mid-September I sent an email to my folks and got a very unnaturally stiff response regarding how they have previous commitments and regretfully will be unable to attend, and how this is such a surprise since National Grandparents Day was last weekend. These are people who adore their granddaughter and are clearly just being pissy at me.
They live far away and were just here visiting so I didn't expect they would make the trip anyway, I'm just off-put by the tone of the email since I always sort of thing of Grandparents Day as a hallmark holiday. After all, we send cards and flowers on Mothers Day and Fathers Day from both me and DD, so it's not like I ignore them on a regular basis. Anyone else in the same boat? |
Luckily for us my mother is town visiting so we took her out for brunch. Forgot to call my father. I have a feeling he is not loosing any sleep over this.
I think it is a bit odd that your parents are being so particular about which days they want you DC to celebrate them. They need to get over it. |
Omg. Who can remember all that. Grandparents day. Teacher appreciation day. Or week. Whatever. Secretaries day. Oops, they don't call it that any more. National Dental Hygiene Week. Movember. Bike-to-work day. Breastcancer awareness month.
Am officially sick of this. |
Totally made up holiday. |
I mentioned it to my mom (both DH & my parents are first time grandparents this year)....she even said it's made up and this is a woman who sends me Halloween and thanksgiving cards in the mail! |
Fake stupid holiday. I wish they would ban this type of crap. |
Amen! I will add "100th day of school" |
Only remembered bc they were talking about it on the weekend version of the Today Show. But I didn't do anything about it. I don't even think my parents and ILs know this so-called holiday exists |
You're parents are weird OP. I'm sure they never celebrated this made up holiday with their own grandparents. |
We don't do Grandparents Day. I have never mentioned it to any of the grandparents because I am afraid of what would happen ![]() |
My parents don't even know it's a thing. |
No. This is not a real holiday. It's bad enough we already have mother's day and father's day for which the grandparents would be mortally offended if I didn't send a card on behalf of our kid who can neither read nor write yet. One year our daycare tried to get us to celebrate "week of the young child." AYFKM? In a house with young child it's constantly year of the young child, I'm not cooking my kid special breakfasts and buying them flowers or whatever nonsense they proposed. |
Remembering it would mean that it was on my radar to begin with, which it is not. It's not radar-worthy. |
I didn't even know grandparents day was a thing! ![]() And I am close with my grandparents (well, with one set and not close with the others but no bad feelings)- I am so lucky to have all 4 still alive at 34 years old! |
At first I thought this was some angry grandmother posting about how rude her daughter or DIL was to not have the grandkids send her a card. I guess I was only half-wrong? |
