I stopped taking anxiety meds because the doctor's assistant told me to lose weight

And now I feel like shit and I am pretty angry. I have thyroid disease and take anxiety drugs and have a BMI of 26 or so...the medical assistant told me that they can't find a problem and I needed to just lose weight. UGH.

Why did they tell you to stop taking the anxiety meds? I don't understand.

It sounds like you took bad advice and regret it. Now that you realize that, you have a choice between being angry at the medical assistant, which is unproductive, or taking steps to undo the damage and help yourself. In the long run it will be much better to move forward, than to ruminate over what's over and done with.

Good luck!

Get a second opinion from a doctor, not here.

Can you explain further, please?

Why did the doctor's assistant tell you they could not find a problem? A problem about what?

If you have hypothyroidism, as measured by a blood test, you need synthetic hormone throughout your life.
This will also help keep you weight under control.
The medication may have to be adjusted form time to time so keep track of your symptoms.

Also, if you have debilitating anxiety, you may need medication for that on top of exercise, yoga and meditation, and a healthy lifestyle in general. Of course anxiety medications can have many side-effects, so watch out.

Finally, with a BMI of 26, yes, you do need to lose weight and check that none of your meds are actively working against your efforts.

I don't understand what one has to do with the other. There are folks who gain weight with SSRIs but I don;t see how the medical assistant got you to stop taking them.
