Negative on one brand of ovulation test, positive on another

Anonymous
I currently use the Up&Up brand OPK that contains 20 in a box. Since my cycles are very irregular and tend to be long, I bought the Clear Blue Advanced tests to verify a...positive with the cheaper test. I don't want to use those throughout my cycle because that would get really expensive! The up&up test got gradually darker over the course of a week, and was positive the other day. When I tried to verify it with the Clear Blue test, that one was negative. Same urine since I use the dip method (sorry tmi) has this ever happened to anyone? Which test is most likely right?

I do not recommend clearblue *advanced* opks. They told me I am ovulating when I am definitely not ovulating - sometimes a full week before. Read the reviews on Amazon, they're very poor and most everyone says the same thing.

Have you tried temping? I always avoided it but everyone kept saying to try and I was tired of being confused by opks. I highly, highly, highly recommend it. Makes ovulation day crystal clear and is much less stressful timing sex and then spending the rest of the 2ww wondering which opk was right/if it was right at all! And it if counts for anything I got pregnant 2nd month temping after many months of bfns.

Hi, OP here. Thanks for pointing out the Amazon reviews. Sounds like I'm not the only one that has a problem with that test. I'll definitely skip those from now on. I've thought about temping, buti don't know if it will work very well for me. I tend to not sleep well a lot of the time, waking up at 2 or 3 am, going back to sleep and then waking at 6:30 for the day. Do you know if something like that would make a difference? Thanks for your help

Make sure you use the first morning's urine since that urine is the most concentrated.

During the day, if you drink a lot of liquid, your urine gets more diluted so it gets less concentrated which may make the results less reliable. (Since it is summer and so hot outside still, this may be a factor.)

Actually, I believe you are NOT supposed to use first morning urine for OPKs. You are supposed to test between 11am-8pm, when your body is making the LH hormone.

I did not have much success with OPKs. the clear blue smiley face brand worked for me, but only some of the time, even though I KNOW i was ovulating every month thanks to temping/charting. On the month I did get pregnant, I never got a positive OPK. so don't put too much stock in it. if you want to be confident you are ovulating, then temp/chart.

The clearblue advanced say to use first morning urine. But then again they were completely wrong about when I was ovulating so they just suck all around.
