Large whitehead near lip

Anonymous
A few times I've gotten a whitehead right by the border with my lip. It is gross and painful. I've tried leaving them alone, which still left a mini scar, and applying a warm compress and gently popping (it was really painful/big), which also didn't have a good result. Is there anything I can do? This is probably the third time I've gotten one (different areas near lip edge). No, it's not herpes, just a really big unfortunately placed whitehead.

I would change lip products as something is clearly clogging your pores. This happens to me when I regularly use Carmex. Unfortunately all you can do is throw some zit cream in there and wait it out.

Thanks. I use a variety of lip products (Chapstick and the like; nothing too fancy). I think it comes from a bad habit of touching my face too often. I'm going to try to get a sacylic acid based product. :/

You don't need lip balm. It is addictive. If you stop using it and don't lick your lips you will find you don't need it.

Maybe ease into it with aqua phonr as you will not be tempted to lick that at all.

Why are you using Chapstick? Unnecessary and addictive.

Could also be an ingrown hair.

Can I pop it? Please, please, please?

Pop it! I would personally use the little metal tool with loops on the end. I'm not sure what it is called, in my house we just call it the tool. And if it is too painful, I would have my husband get it for me.

Dab some toothpaste on it, press it in. Allow to sit for 20 min. Wipe away and repeat throughout the day.

OP here -- I use Chapstick maybe once or twice a day. Maybe I'll try to refrain totally, don't really think that's related to the whitehead though. Thanks

Of course it is. Chapstick is wax. Wax clogs pores.

Get one of those tanda zap tools. Those are by far the most effective tools on the market when it comes to getting rid of zits fast. I swear by them! If I have a zit, or if I feel one coming, I just zap it and by the next day, no sign of it anymore.

If it is really painful, you can pop it. Just sterilize a needle and prick the whitehead. If you just squeeze it until it pops, you are more likely to have residual scarring/discoloration.

Consult your dermatologist.

Extractor. I got one at sephora, but some on DCUM have said you can get them at a drugstore. Makes quick business of a whitehead.

apply 3% hydrogen peroxide on it. should dry out quickly.

it sounds totally unrelated, but maybe try an exfoliating scrub/mask? It could be the chap stick, but it could also be there's a layer or two of dry skin that's blocking the pores in general.

I find I get far fewer "one-off" whiteheads when I exfoliate. When I Do get them it's my sign that I've been ignoring the process.
